    Hey guys...

With data becoming increasingly valuable to corporations these days and Wireless networks are common

can joining a wireless network actually set off an alarm? as in a burgular alarm system?

i was in a hurry to download some drivers for a client the other day and new there was a spot around the area i was which ive used before on my lunch break to browse the internet while i ate burger king. nothing malicious at all.

well i went there the other night and all i did was search for networks, then this alarm started going off and the lights turned on.

probably coincidence it was just a cafe, but is this possible or a myth?

It is amazing what can be done sir, if he was good with programming etc etc then there would be no reason at all why he couldn't log traffic and when erroneous packets from an unknown mac address start appearing an alarm is sounded.....Highly unlikely however :D unless he realises that too many people in the cafe are using his net connection lol. There is not a white cross on the wall of his house is there?? lol

Some alarms use wireless devices. But for that to happen you would need to be in the same bandwidth, which is very unlikly.

Now if they had IP cameras and they were watching you, and wanted to have fun.....

It could also mean they had problem setting there alarm and you just happened to be there.
