    hello,
can a router stop working without any reason?
i've only had it with me for 5 months and it was working fine.
i switched it off before going to bed and when i switched it on in the afternoon on the following day, there wasnt any power.
so, would like to know if anyone has had this before and know the reason why?
    thanks.

Yes it is possible with electronics. Especially when they are often shut down and restarted because of heat cycling. I have routers and other electronic equipment at work that is left on 24/7/365 and have been running for years. Even our Linux server has not been shut down for over two years. I will assume you checked for power at the outlet.

If you have another power adapter that will match up, you can try that. You could also try to reset the router with the reset button, but I doubt anything would happen. At least your router should be under warranty. The fastest thing to do would be to borrow a power adapter. If it is the power adapter, you could purchase a compatible adapter at Radio Shack or some other electronic shop. I can't live without a router anymore, and when I had router problems a couple of months ago, I went to Walmart and purchased a new and better one that night, a WRT54GS. I wish now that I had the time to buy a WRT54GL with Linux software. Anyway, I have a spare router on a shelf to grab if I need it. It is only a 802.11B, but better than nothing. Good luck.

well i dont usually switch it on and off that often.
i do that everyday but it's normally once a day.
i did not have another power adapter that matched the router :(
so had to take it back to the place from where i bought it from and i'll have to wait for 3 weeks! :(
you're right i cant live without a router either especially when you have more than one computer.
at least my netgear did not fail me when i still had it.

If it's only 5 months old it should still be under warranty. Contact Linksys about a replacement.

Yes power adapter can fail. If you have a Volt meter you can check the output. If it's going to be 3 weeks that is way to long. Cisco/Linksys can and will ship you a replacement in 2-3 days if you were to go through them. I would buy another router it it's that long and get a credit on the one you returned.

i've already given it to the people i bought it from so i guess i'll have to wait.
    thanks for your reply :)
just another question, is there a possibility of the router screwing up again later on?
