the GL version has more powerful hardware I think... It's supposed to be targeted at people who want to flash their router's firmware, install linux, muddle around and derive great swaths of functionality not available by default. Or maybe it came with Linux preinstalled... I forget. Something like that.

I've got the normal kind. Works fine.

Linksys cut the ram in 1/2 on their routers. If you are planning on gaming or BT get the GL model or a different brand all together. There std line has problems handling multiple threads. This apply if you will have more than 1 user, too.

Nope. Just bought one from Amazon for my girlfriend, and it's a V.6. Works great too on her Comcast cable.

I would say get this one instead: ( if you live in an appartment), read reviews here:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833162173
sign up for google account & pay with google checkout from buy.com, $36 shipped
    http://www.buy.com/retail/product.a...m=201718519&Type=PE&Category=Comp&dcaid=15890
Best router for it's price range, period.

If you live in a big house and need more wireless range across the house then go for the bigger brother: ( sign up for google account & pay with google checkout, get $10 off, so price is $50 shipped
    http://www.buy.com/retail/product.a...m=201718557&Type=PE&Category=Comp&dcaid=15890
It has a built in amplifier that extends range.
