I have a WRT54GS - Live in a two story and my Router is on the Top floor. I can get a signal through out the house (albiet I did buy some additional High Gain antenna's ) but even before that purchase I could get a good to excellent signal in the basement. (bought the High Gain antenna's to resolve disconnets which it did not)

I like the WRT54GS not so much for the speedbooster , but I believe it has more RAM than the WRT54G. Both routers are able to run third party firmware (althouhg I have heard Version 5 of the router may have disabled that)

Bottom line I would go for whatever one is cheaper (you will likley get a 30 day retrun poilcy so what the heck).

The onll reason to get the speed booster is to transfer files between computers faster. Its just kicked up more than the WRT54GS. I have the WRT54G and it is very good. If you have more than 3 computers networking its a good idea but the G one will be just fine.
