Do you have the latest/correct drivers?

It seems like your computer is recognizing that there is a wireless connection. The problem is it can't seem to connect to it.
This sounds like a hardware issue rather than a software issue. What kind of device are you using to connect to wireless networks? -
devices? connecting to unsecured networks for now until i replace my non working belkin n router, then i will have my own network. dont flame for being on unsecured please. this morning i connected fine and now problems. even with my router i had the same problem with my own network. the intel driver is 10.6.0.29

The message normally means it connects to the router, but can not connect to the internet. You will also get this message sometimes if auth failed.
Delete the wireless location. Connect to the router via wired. Generate a pass key on a notepad doc. Copy and paste to the router. Then while still connected wired, Connect wirelessly, when prompted paste the key.
You did mentioned BELKIN, this mfg has the highest failure rate in the industry. It took a friend of mine 4 trys to get one that worked. My advise is dump the belkin and get something that is more reliable.
Are you using Vista or XP? -
I would try to connect to a different router. Perhaps try a coffee shop or public library. See what happens there.

Right know ia m just connecting to someones unsecured network, but with either local or limited connectivity with no internet. My router i sent back to Belkin. Friday i will recive Linskys wrt54gl router. Anyways i can get online with ethernet cable. wireless i cannot. sometimes i get a message saying windows needs to repair or renew ip address and it fails to do that.

other meesages i get: Connectivity to networks is taking longer than usual.
connection unsuccessful. -
Well if your connected to someone's unsecured network, it would be possible that they are MAC filtering their router. I am unsure how far you could get if you r MAC isn't in the list, but I do believe you can see the AP but will fail to connect to it.
They could also have DHCP turned off on the router, what you could try to do is, determine the router's IP and try to assign a static IP within the range, and see if it can connect. I don't know if a ipconfig will show you the router's addy if your unable to get a proper connection.
limited or no connectivity or local only
