OK folks. i've read all the topics in this forum and have to admit my head is spinning from trying to figure out how to set up the wireless thing. here's our setup currently at home:

    wired desktop to dsl cable
new baby on the way (nc6000 with wireless)
xbox set up for xbox live with ethernet cable to dsl modem

we want to be able to use the xbox and the laptop at the same time. also, how can we set up to be able to print from the laptop to the printer we have now?

no doubt all the answers are here somewhere. it just makes no sense to me!

    thanks!
    chris

Buy a wirless router. Plug ethernet cable from dsl modem into router. Another ethernet cord goes from router to desktop. Another ethernet cord from router to xbox. You can buy a wireless adapter for your xbox so that you dont have a wire running across the room to it. See link: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?j=1&CategoryID=cat08132&id=1075583597958&skuId=6319888&type=product&cmp=KAC-071603INCEPTOR&ref=06&loc=01

The router will broadcast internet signal to laptop so that laptop can access internet. You can use laptop, desktop, and xbox all at the same time. You can have the laptop print to the desktop printer. I think it has something to do with "File and Print(er) sharing" that can be tweaked in windows xp. I have never done the printer thing, so that is all I can tell you.

I have a linksys wireless "G" router and in addition to giving my laptop wireless internet access, it can support four or so WIRED components (like desktop). I only have one desktop hooked up to it however.

There are wireless "B" and "G" routers. "G" is faster than "B". Your internet connection is not fast enough to even take advantage of "B"'s full speed, but if you will be transfering files between computers wirelessly, then the "G" speed will come in handy.

I think I answered all of your questions, if you need more help, dont be afraid to ask.

P.S. Here is the router I have:
