    http://www.careyholzman.com/xp/home/xphome-2.htm

'cause the instructions show a lotta things that I didn't know that I have to change.

eg. i didn't know i have to enable netbios thru tcp/ip protocol...

is it possible for someone to give a step by step guide to setting up a home network? I tried running the network wizard and then enabling sharing in folders...but I can only see the computer in the workgroup but not able to access them. Also, I was wondering how I could set up a password before someone gaining access into the computers in the workgroup.

    MUCH THANKS!!!

you dont have to enable netBIOS thru TCP/IP, i actually dont know why he did that, if someone could tell me....post below. But after reading that i would say that there is nothing in that tutorial that would be detrimental to your computer.

basically, i got all the hardware set up done. I know it's working 'cause from one computer, I can see the other computer in the workgroup. But on the other computer, I can't even access the workgroup.

i'm trying to set up my computers so that i can get access to the shared folders of each comp. I've gone thru the wizard in both comps (both having xp). Also, I've right click on the folders and selected the shared option to the network users. But I get the message of either saying the workgroup is not accessible or the comp can't be accessible.

As well, I'd just like to ask if there's a way that can be set up so that when u first access the computer in the workgroup, u have to type in a password to access that specific comp.

    THANKS!

ok, here are the things you want to doublecheck...

    1. are all computers in the same workgroup
    2. in addition to having file/print sharing turned ON, have you also shared the actual folders you want shared (rightclick > sharing), in xp home you have to drag the folder to the "shared folders" folder
