    Hey everyone,
I've always used an ethernet cable to my router to connect to the internet for 2 years now and it has always worked until recently. My ISP shut down my connection while I was on vacation for late payments but was up and working when I got back. When I tried to connect to the internet using the ethernet cable, it shows that it's connected in Network Connections but the internet doesn't work. I brought my laptop and ethernet cord to my friend's house to try out on his router and everything works fine there. Any help?

    Thanks,
    Danny

Unplug your modem overnight, then plug it back in in the morning.

It's probably not picking up your router's MAC address.

You can try unplugging it for about 5 minutes, the MAC might be released, but other ISPs hold MAC addresses for 2 hours.

Have you contacted your ISP about this problem? They have the ability to see your router, and can probably help fix this for you.

Yes, I spoke to a representative from my ISP and I was instructed to unplug the power from my modem for 30 seconds and plug it back in. They said everything was working fine but it's not working.

Thanks for the quick replies! :)

You should really call your ISP before unplugging your modem.

So I should call them again and ask to unplug it?

I would call them again and ask them if they have your router's MAC address. My ISP can read the router's MAC address and add it to their system, so all of my computers can access the internet. It might be that your ISP is looking for one single MAC address, and when it sees your router, it denies you access.

It's worth a shot to ask them about it.

If you originally connected your laptop directly to the modem when you first got the service, you might have to clone your laptop's MAC into the router so that the modem "sees" just that MAC.
