This is probably the stupidest question ever, but I seem to be having problems with my internet connection. The only way I can sign online is through wireless connection (so at least that works). However, for the past few days I cannot sign on to the automatic internet connection that should have been there. (I live in an apartment complex where there is an automatic internet connection.)

Now about a day before the problems started a new automatic update from windows arrived (sic!) so that could be the problem. Does anyone know how I can check if someone that update prevents me now from having a working internet connection? Is there maybe a system setting that was changed? I did notice my homepage was altered.

Sorry for asking this, but I am getting a bit desperate that there may be some problem. There is no one here that can help me.

I ran the ipconfig command, and the only surprising line I can find is this:
    Ethnernet adapter LAC:
    media state.....media disconnected

another strange thing is that there is no specific dns suffix listed or default gateway. Is this the problem? It worked perfectly fine before so I am curious to find out what got messed up.

the dnsflush command turned up successfully
