    hi everyone -

my laptop has not been working properly after i connected to the internet at a hotel this weekend. specifically, the wireless portion of the laptop keeps showing that i have 'limited or no connectivity' and that i am not connected to my router. the fact is that there is connection -sometimes-. then it shows a message saying that it's unable to connect to the preferred wireless network. when i click to see the available networks, mine shows up - but it still says 'not connected' or 'manual'... then after a while it connects but then loses connection.

i even tried to simply plug the ethernet cord into my laptop and i get the same 'limited or no connectivity' message. this is the only computer in the house that's having this problem. what's the issue here? please help!

note: the only thing that anyone tried to change this computer between the last time i was able to use the computer normally and now is bridging a connection - which i deleted afterwards.

    thanks in advance!

If it is something in the Registry that got mis-configured either at the hotel or with the bridging thing, try doing a Restore if it is XP, to a date before you went to the hotel and before the bridging attempt, which ever was the first.

Any programs you added since that Restore point will have to be re installed.

    Most common mistake -

Restart your modem by unplugging it from the wall for 1 Minute, and then plug it back in. Its not your wireless card if you cant get it to connect wired anyways...

    Also, try this:

    Start
    All programs
    Accessories
    Command Prompt
Type: ipconfig /release (should cut you from the internet) and hit enter
Type: ipconfig /renew and hit enter.

    it renews your ip address.

hi guys - i have tried to do the unplug-and-replug thing, as well as trying to release and renew the ip address. with the unplugging, yes, i was able to restore the connection for 5 minutes or so, then it goes dead and then comes back intermittently. right now my intel 2200bg shows i have excellent signals, but my 'wireless network connection' icon has a big X on it...

as for the ip release, i was able to do that, but the renewal just didn't go thru...

so how can i do a restore at this point? any other ideas?

    thank you!
