    intel proset wireless and wifi

    hey people. i have a question...i am confused what is the difference between them? i have the intel proset wireless software installed and i just noticed that its not enabled. and if enable it my regular wireless is down and it goes through the internet a different way. so i'm wondering what is the difference between those two. thx.

    I'm assuming you mean XP's Microsoft Client (wireless software). There really isn't a difference between the two. XP has a built in WiFi detector (commonly called Microsoft Client) which will connect to any wireless network that is picked up by your wireless network card. Intel ProSet is exact same thing... just a different style and possibly a couple of minor features.

    You can only run one at a time. This is why when you run Intel ProSet and enable it, your MS client will turn off. They do the exact same thing, so it is just a preference as to which you want to use. I think it is probably alot easier to use MS Client instead of ProSet, but I'm stuck with ProSet for the moment (long story).

    Intel ProSet is just a standard software package that comes with their wireless cards, so majority of Dell (as well as any other manufacturer) users who have an intel wireless card, will have this software.

    ohhh ok. i thought that my computer had like two sets of wireless connection or something, but its only software. alright cool. thx a lot sg. :cool:
