I have recently bought a new inspiron e1505 laptop. But I have some problems with wireless card which is dell 1390 internall wireless. My laptop couldnt recognize my wireless modem. I have a friend who has inspiron e1705 with same wireless card and he doesn't have any problems with modem.First question is what can be the problem. Can I fix it by driver upgrade or firmware upgrade or something like that.Second question is I couldnt find the mini pci card on my laptop. I want to bougth a new wireless card but where is the dell 1390 internall wireless card is located on my laptop.

Do you have a wireless router? Unless the modem is also wireless (good chance not, l think l've only seen one wireless modem) you need a wireless router.

And the mini pci card should be on the bottom of the laptop in one of the compartments you can take off.

Actually the problem is with the wireless card. I have tried to use both windows native wireless tool and Dell's wireless management program (new and old versions) Driver details: Broadcom 11/2/2005

The problem is when I try to locate my wireless I cant s ee my SSID on the network list. If I am lucky I can catch it with couple of refresh. And sometimes I can successfully connect to the wireless but couple of minutes later even if the connection status shows connected, the connection drops

My wireless router is working fine ( It is Airties RT210). I have using the same router with Dell Inspiron 1705 with 1390 mini PCI card. IBM Thinkpad with Intel Proset wireless 2100, Toshiba Satellite L10 with Intel 2200 BG and Linksys wireless card.( I dont remember the product code)

I was using WEP enabled initially, and I have put it to the factory default settings but result was same. I also have same case with Linksys WAG354G

The problem is I have purchased the notebook in US and moved to another country otherwise returning the notebook to dell could be better solution. The notebook comes with the expresscard slot and it is not easy to find a expresscard WLAN solution in the market with resonable prices

I have tried to locate card on the back of my notebook to replace it with Intel but there were only RAM slots and modem card I found. Then I realized that the exact description is on my order form was "Dell Wireless 1390 802.11b/g Mini Card " not a mini PCI card. I am affraid it means this is something integrated (or installed) on motherboard.

So you guys if can recomend a solution to replace this card I will be apreciated or find a way to solve my problem with the current one I"ll be greatefull.

    Thank you

The wireless card on the E1505 is located under the keyboard, not on a back compartment like the E1705

A minicard, is a smaller form factor than Mini PCI, and its based off of PCI Express

Many have reported similar problems on Dell's own support forum. Dell's tech support suggests downgrading the driver. An old version that may work is Release# R102320. I tried this and it did help to some extent but the card still works with some problems like less compatible with some routers, slow throughput, dropping connections, etc. Some people requested replacement with Intel 3945 card and that card works perfectly. I'm also considering a replacement.

If your 3945 card has a solid connection to the router but you don't get internet, it's most likely a configuration problem not hardware problem.

    vesko,
You may try to make sure the internal antennae are working. Go to Device Manager, open properties for the 1390 card, go to Advanced tab, select Antenna Diversity. On the right side, the default value is Auto. Change it to Aux or Main then test your connection to see if it works better. If one of the antennae is not working well, you will have the problem like you described.
