I've only bought routers from linksys so I can only give my opinions on them. And so far I like them, not bad. I would go for the first one. Actually any good router could give you a good network. Are you going to be sending big files over the w.lan?

probably nothing that big, music probably one of the biggest things, possibly some episodes of family guy & scrubs to keep me amused :)

if i got that first one could i just put the card in the laptop and connect the router to the PC and have both using the net connection i already have?
(sorry, i need stuff spelled out  )

Haha its ok. So if you're transfering something small, then the first one should do the job nicely. I have a WRT54G Linksys router and it's fine. You do have to setup the network tho through the network wizard.

Alright, pretty much you need ethernet cables. Your wireless router should have 4 slots (up to 4 computers). Plug an ethernet cable in one of those slots and to the pc. There would be another port labeled wan or nowadays they probably say internet, which you connect an ethernet cable to that and the other end to the cable modem. Since you are using a wireless, your laptop should just receive the signal.
