    hello all,
I have a toshiba a200 laptop which i use as my main comp. I have a desktop comp sitting around not being used. I would like to be able to use that as a storage for my laptop. MY question is - What is the best why to set up the desktop to be connected to the laptop and be able to save stuff to it and access files on the laptop. I'm thinking maybe windows 2003 server but i wouldn't know how to set it up etc. Maybe xp and do remote connection but that would be annoying each time to connect. Any ideas?

Just depend on what your needs are. For a basic NAS, FreeNAS looks good, even though it's still in beta. WarFTP makes a very good FTP server, runs on latency OS's, or even a std MS OS with file sharing. Or one of the linux flavors, have a good server software.

Do you need to run RAID for redundentcy?

not really, just want to be able to access the 120gb harddrive on the desktop from my laptop and access and save files on to it. Kinda like having it as a secondary harddrive.

There's nothing special needed. Just assign all computers to the same workgroup, then share out the drive on your unused desktop.

Have you disabled IP6 in vista?

There is a register fix if you can not see the router. It was just posted on another thread with in the last 2 days.
