You probably ahve one set to auto connect. If you're using XP's controller for this, you can view the list of wireless networks and manually disconnect. If you do this it shouldn't try to auto-connect any longer.

Ok. Try this: right click on the little wireless signal in the lower right tray on the taskbar. Choose 'view wireless networks'. Now, you want to change the Preferred Networks. Make sure that only the one you want to connect to is in there. If there are any other networks, highlight them and click 'remove'.

Its as simple as going to onto the properties were all the networks are displayed. (Start>Connect to> Show all connections.) Right click on the network and disable it. Then Delete it. Try that for now

Hmm, do you mean it keeps showing up in "available wireless connections" table? It will always show up there. Everything w/ ssid enabled shows up. Click on the link for 'Change Order of Preferred Networks' next to the table showing the networks. That will bring up the screen I mentioned in the previous post where you can remove a network from the preferred list. You can also change the order of which network windows tries to connect to by moving the desired name to the top of the 'preferred networks' list. Highlight your network, and click on the move up tab to the right of the table until your network is at the top. The only networks on the preferred list are the ones you have chosen to connect to in the 'available wireless networks' table. This works for me. I live in an apartment and there are usually 6 or more networks beside my own. Windows always defaults to mine, which is at the top of my preferred connection list. The other networks detected do not get added to my preferred networks list. Good luck.

Try this - Click View Available Wireless Networks, then Change Advanced Settings. On the Wireless Networks Tab, click the Advanced button. Make sure to uncheck "Automatically Connect to Non-preferred networks". Click Close, and remove 'linksys' from the Preferred Network list if it's on there.

Yeah, but we forgot about that check box that the other poster mentioned. That was important and I'm glad it was mentioned.
