I'm not clear on your problem. You bought a PCMCIA card which certainly will plug in your notebook, but I would think your machine has built in wireless, so I'm following what you're trying to do.

    Sammi,

Sorry, but that didn't make things any clearer.

Are you saying that you want to get a WiFi card that can be installed internally into your notebook (eg. unscrew a cover plate on the underside of the unit and pop in a small card and attach 2 wires to it), or do you just want to get wireless capabilities on your notebook (eg. plug a USB WiFi adapter or PCMCIA WiFi card)?

If you're just looking for something to give you wireless capabilities on your notebook, the Linksys card you bought is fine. It's designed for any noteboook with at least 1 PCMCIA slot available on the side of your notebook. You just need to configure the card and also have access to a wireless accesspoint (router or internet hotspot).

If you're looking for the specific HP/Compaq card that get's inserted internally under a cover plate so you you can't see it, then you need to contact HP/Compaq to find the specific P/N for the wireless adapter for your specific unit.

I did a quick search for you and found a P/N for a Compaq Presario R4025US & R4025CA (PX353UA & PX354UA - these are located on the underside of your unit)

    377408-001
Mini PCI IEEE 802.11g (Wi-Fi) wireless LAN networking card - Maximum data rate of up to 54Mbps (most-of-world) $89.00

This should be compatible with your system as long as the system is a US or Canadian model. You can find this info & purchase this product on HP's Support website under Replacement Parts (on the right side of the Support Page).

Hope this is what you were looking for, if not, you're gonna have to be a LOT clearer on what you want. [ ;)]

I still have no clue why you're using a card if wireless is integrated in the first place. But if you must, it should slide into the PCMCIA slot. Are you sure there's not a spacer in there that needs to come out?

    Brian,
It's possible Sammi bought a base unit and decided not to add wireless to the unit. That could explain why an external wireless adapter is being used.

    Sammi,
This might be a stupid question, but did you insert the card with the lights and the Linksys name facing upwards? This is the way it should be inserted. Also, as what Brian indicated, you might have a plastic filler piece in the slot, you need to eject that before inserting the card.
