i just got a new laptop, and with it my dad bought a wireless router...
my problem lies in that i have xbox live, but to hardwire to my xbox would take a lot of cable.

how can i set up my laptop to network with my xbox through its wireless internet connection?

You can actually buy a Wireless Gaming Adapter for the Xbox (BTW, do you have the Xbox or the Xbox 360).

The wireless gaming adapter will connect the Xbox directly to the wireless router you have at your house (that is an assumption, do you have router?).

The XBOX 360 has a WiFi dongle you can purchase. See if the XBOX has something similar or if the X360 dongle could be used. Otherwise that gaming adapter is probably the only choice.

Technically you can set up an internet gateway but I am not sure how to do that with the xbox.

I own an Xbox and a 360 and I had an old linksys wireless gaming adapter and I actually still use it for the 360.

    Here is mine: WGA11B

<strike>Here is the updated version: WGA54G</strike> Sorry, this is a draft-g adapter, you are not going to want draft.

This just made me remember that that stupid adapter is B. Crap, I need to upgrade, it is slowing my network down. Not to mention, I cannot stream media to my HDTV with it. Wow. Sorry off topic.

If you do not want to spend that much money on a gaming adapter, consider a AP. Most AP supports AP client, Wireless bridge, multiple bridge and a few repeater. Just need to check their specs. That way you can reuse it for something else later on. AP cost about the same as a gaming adapter.
