    hey ive gotta buy a router in a few hours im looking at the DWL-G730AP by D-Link its portable. http://www.dlink.ca/product.php?PID=176 I have cable connection at home. if i buy this and hook it up to my cable will i be able to plug the cable into my computer with this on and be able to use wireless on my laptop?

    doesnt look like it b/c its "portable"...at least it doesnt say so in the "product view" page....if its for home just get a normal size one that is going to be cheaper anyways and will have at least 4 or 5 wired connections to it...

    From what i can see, the laptop would work (through wireless), but not the desktop. This is because this thing does not have any ethernet ports aside from the one (which would be used coming from the cable connection). Your options would be a) put a wireless card in your desktop (doesn't seem worth it to me) or b) find a normal wireless routher that comes with a couple ethernet ports. More routers these days are relatively small and you're losing quite a bit of functionality with this router.

    yes that will work as a WAP but when they say router they are using the word too broadly. It does not connect directly to an isp. If all you need it for is to connect to an already established LAN then it will work, otherwise Id say look elsewhere.

    i have a cheap d-link router and i can run both my laptops wirelessly, and my desktop through a LAN cord...

    i paid 30 dollars Canadain 1 year ago.
