    Hello,

I have a home made desktop which I need some help with. it has XP home pro.

The computer generally uses Plug in ethernet for the internet connection. My dad accidentally Killed the connection and im having some problems getting it going again. I put in the Ip and DNS information and saved but it still isnt getting any connection from my wireless router. Any tips/ things to look into?

Any guides to re hooking up the internet? He uses IE7 if that helps.

    Thanks

Also, the wireless router has No security turned on right now .

We Get our Internet from a Cable router --> Wireless router --> his Desktop

you could try and reset the router...
and perhaps enabling or checking if DHCP is turned on in the router...

does your ISP provide you an individual IP/DNS?
because you could leave those in blank, and let it choose automatically...

I have manually put in the IP and set it on auto many times and have had no luck.

Set both the router and the NIC for auto DHCP, clear the NIC's IP, and force it to go ask the router for a new IP.

If you reset the router and set everything to DHCP Automatic on both router and computer, there shouldn't be any problems. Try connecting the computer directly to the modem itself (not the router).

Edit: And you're saying you normally use plug-in ethernet. So how do you plan on getting the desktop on WiFi. You did purchase a wireless card for it right? Just want to be clear here.....

Check to make sure the FW is not blocking the connection. You can disable/enable the port to force it to reconnect, if you are DHCP.

If a wireless connection, just remove the location and have it rescan/connect.
