    Sometimes routers hiccup like that. You might look for a firmware update to make sure it's up to date.

    As for the transfer, you can do it over WiFi but it will take a while. A crossover cable directly to the PC would be fastest. Plugging directly into the router would also be preferable and 10 times faster than WiFi.

    A icon should pop up on the screen your networking with or notification will show up.

    WOOOH Nick, i didnt understand that at all....

    Bored7one4 -
    Brian is right, routers can hiccup like that some times and thats the problem we face. But try and do a router firmware update and it should solve anything of that kind.

    Renaming a Computer
    Follow the follwing steps and it should get you to change ur computer/notebook's Name. If Running Windows XP.
    1. Click on start.
    2. RIGHT click My computer.
    3. Scroll down to Properties.
    4. At the top find the tab Computer Name, then click on it.
    5. In that tab there should be a button that says "change..." Click on it.
    6. In the first Box is what you want your computer to be named to.
    7. If you wish to change the workgroup then you can but Windows Default is WORKGROUP.
    8. Click ok and it will require you to Reboot your computer.

    To locate/See other Computers
    In this case the name of the computers are as follows:
    Laptop = Sam
    Desktop = Julia
    Laptop 2 = Amanda

    Open up IE or even My Computer. (note: you can not use Mozilla or anything like that)
    Say your on your Laptop(Sam) and you want to see whats shared on Desktop(Julia)... Then in the Adress bar you type: \\Julia
    Then the shared folders should come up.
    Say you want to see wats on Laptop2(Amanda)
    Same thing in the address bar type: \\Amanda
    Then the shared folders should come up.

    If nothing comes up and an error message comes about then there's a firewall up either on the computer your using or the computer your trying to get files off.

    If a login comes up then there's no shared files on that computer.

    I hope that helps you. :D

    A pop up or notification will come up, or your other computers name will pop up as a icon.
