    I have been with Belkin for 3 years now, never had a problem with either of the 2 routers I have had with them;

    1st was a ADLS modem+WirelessRouter, then after having a year of hell with UK's so called No.1 ISP... I switched to a Cable company, therefore selling my Belkin ADSL router as I no-longer needed it. My friend who bought it off me (cheap) is still using it problem free for the past 2 years!

    2nd is a Wireless Router with a MODEM port on the back to plug in the Modem that came with the Cable ISP, still running super smooth and glitch free upto date. AND also with Cable Routers, if I ever decided to switch back to ADSL, i can just plug in the ADSL modem into the MODEM port of this Router and still use it!

    So I recommend ANY Belkin!

    Get the DD-WRT lite firmware for your router and see how that treats you.

    Keep in mind, alot of the router acting funny is in the settings. If upgrading the firmware (Which is free, so you might as well try it before buying something else) doesn't do the trick, then go ahead and buy another.

    Personally I like my buffalo router, but you will not be able to buy one in the US for a while... But when they are available, they are the best for the price!

    I would stay away totally from belkin, I have yet to get one that worked reliability, if it worked at all. The linksys wrt54g you have is probably a v5+, these are pretty much junk, sounds like a firmware or over heating problem. From what you indicated I would load the linux firmware dd-wrt on it. The Linskys WRT54GL is the only model that is any good, it's like the v4 model. If your going to replace the router I would look at models that support the Linux firmware. The dd-wrt firmware gives you a lot more options, and is very stable. I like the buffalo hardware but is very hard to get due to a court injunction. Unless you buy it from dd-wrt it will come preloaded with dd-wrt.

    I use SMB class routers with external AP. It's more expensive, but it never goes down. Also allow me to get better coverage.

    Small to Medium Business (SMB) I use a Netgear FVS-338 router (8 port, wired) with a 16 port GigE managed Switched. I have 2 other routers connected to my main one. 1 (buffalo) is setup as a AP, the other (actiontec, FIOS) is in a Vlan. plus a USR 5450AP.

    my signature indicates some of my hardware.

    Yes,

    Setup the wireless security first. Assign a static IP to it, outside of your normal DHCP range. Turn off DHCP. then connect one of the lan port to your upstream routers lan port. All DHCP will be handled by your upstreem router. To access it's web page use the static IP address.
