So i got a dlink 655 (thanks to the forum ;]) and its one for the best choices i made. it is stated to have gaming piority, but the thing is when my brothers are streaming it eats up the connection badly. Now i know that streaming can result in that, but there is little to no lag or wait time for their stream. One more thing, they are hooked up wired with cat 6 cables while I am running wireless; another factor.

I'll admit that I have very little knowledge of wireless (that's why I'm asking here) and that the favor for internet connection is kind of aginst me here, but is there a way to make it IN my favor? haha. like getting another wireless card or adaptor... or sitting ALOT closer to the router... or just going wired when im gaming... or some configuration i can do in the router? Honestly, i am willing to try something. i just want a non-laggy game.

oh a few more things, i own a sony vgn-fz440e/b running windows xp sp3. the ONLY game i play is "warcraft 3 frozen throne". i sit about 8 feet away from the router. only two other pcs are hooked up to the router, but only one is used at a time (other then my labtop which is on all the time haha). um if theres anything else you need to know let me know. thanks!

Given that you are already sitting pretty close to the router, I think that your only real option is to physically hook up your laptop to the router.

Are you sure it's not graphics lag instead of network lag? Or do you lag when your brothers are streaming. And what's your internet speed?

(result with only me using connection)
It only lags when their streaming. Even though I have a 8400gt, it can handle Warcraft III no problem.

im thinking of just upgrading to cable haha.

Do you ever restart your computer?
Are you sure it's network lag and not graphics lag?
Try shutting down not restarting your computer then turn it back on.
Also that internet connection is not that good. That could also be a reason.

I had this issue *a lot* around my household for years. With every router I tried (Ranging from BT Homehub to Belkins to Netgears) I would always have the same issue. Recently I finally decided to buy a router specifically for gaming - The Sitecom WL-308. Your Dlink seems to have similar technology - the wireless prioritisation. With the Sitecom I have had no issue gaming and streaming - I can even torrent and game! Although it's probably not the best advice try messing with the wireless prioritisation if you can. However if this isn't a possibility I would highly recommend the Sitecom, it's fantastic technology and lets you add your own priorisation rules too.

You should be able to set War3 to have higher priority with that router. I had it for awhile.

I assume that its DSL. It would definately give you lag when someone else is streaming so if a LAN connection to the router doesn't fix it, I don't think there is that much else you can do other than getting cable.
