    g card or n card

    my wireless router is either an n or g router. Which one is better/faster? the n card is more money so is it worth it?

    11n is the new soon to be std, sometime next year. For best performance you need to buy the matching card from the same mfg as the router.

    11n = 300mbps max but don't expect the max. 11g is only 54mbps.

    If your router supports the the 5ghz bandwidth, go for a card that supports it. There is less interference in the 5ghz.

    I use 11n, it's supposedly faster. though you're web speed is mainly constrained by your ISP. It's better than 11g for streaming HD videos, but other than that, it's not much better

    i have comcast right now and on my computer i run at like 19mbps so you think my wifi will be almost as fast?

    If you are the only user you should be fine with web pages, downloads maybe slightly lower. If you have multiple wireless devices or move large files between users go for the 11n. The biggest problem with Comcast when I had them was LAG, it was really bad. Remember that cable is like a party line, the more users on the trunk the slower it gets.

    alright i found the box for my router and i have a netgear rangemax router. it is 802.11g. so should i get the n card of the g card from dell? i know the n card is better but will it help that its going from n to g? i really dont know much about wireless networking so i would appreciate the help. Also fyi my dads laptop and computer would also be on the wireless.

    A 11n card would provide support for future use. As to which one to get your own your own.
