i am staying with some friends who have a linksys wireless router and i want to connect to their network. how do i get the wep encryption key?

the computers already on the network use windows 2000 if that makes a difference in finding it.

May seem rather obvious but ask them ? :p If they are not around and you have thier permission , or they themselves forget it , use the Linksys Web admin Page to look it up.

Then when you try an connect it will ask you for the key which you will have to type in manually (twice if I remember correctly and cut and paste usually does not work).

The "Web admin page" that daacon refered to can be accessed by typing in the IP address of the router in your browser, but you need the user name and password to access the page to get to all the settings.

Yes, type the IP address in the browser, (if you dont know what it is, you can go to a website like dslreports.com and you can find what it is or do a google search). Also, you can run the installation cd of the router onto your computer. :)
