    Hi,

I have a new Asus G1 and every time I go to shut down, I get the error "end program - available networks." Any ideas on how to get rid of it? I Did a search and didn't find anything. Thanks.

Are you using MS ZeroConfig or your MFG utility?

    Try MS if your not.

I'm not using a wireless connection right now. Task Manager show zcfgsvc.exe as loaded. How do I get rid of it, stop it from loading, if that is the culprit? Thanks.

Bring up the task manager (Ctrl+Del) and see what applications are running. You can also look in the startup folder (start All Programs). Any thing in there is just a short cut. Just rt click and delete.

To start MS Zero Config up you need to launch services from All Programs -> Admin tools. At the bottom you will find MS Zero Config. Then set to auto and start up.

Then you will need to add the Wireless locations in.

My start folder is empty. It's related to zcfgsvc.exe because if I control alt delete and kill it, I can shut down no problemo. I've tried repairing Intel Prowireless a couple of times to no avail. I'll try MS Zero Config per your suggestion and see what happens.

O.K. That didn't work. I tried it as you advised and also with it disabled. zcfgsvc.exe still loads up and won't shut down by itself. I think I'll try renaming the culprit exe and see what happens. How will this effect my programs though?

O.K. I renamed it to zcfgsvc.old and it now doesn't load up and thus, my laptop shuts down smoothly. I don't know how it will effect wireless connections as I'm not using one at this time. We'll see when I move to a place where I will be using wireless in the next couple of weeks. I'll update this then.

It's the Intel Proset utility. I uninstalled it and it took care of my problem. It's really not needed and is a resource hog.

Don't use the Intel PRO wireless utility, just get the drivers. It's a hug resource hog, and gives tons of popups. The Windows built in utility usually gives just as good performance.

Its a bug introduced in the newer Intel Proset 10.5.x series. Try the older proset versions 10.1.x

Noob question...can you just uninstall pro wireless through add and remove programs. and the build in windows wireless program takes automaticly over. or do you have to do something diferent to make sure wireless is still working..using wireless at work and at home so don't wanna loose it. Does pro wireless works together with the fn + 2 key ??

Don't uninstall it. Right click on the proset icon in the taskbar and choose "let windows control..."

That's not an option that I can see. All I have is Wireless On; Wireless Off.

For me i had to uninstall all of it then redownload the driver only from intel website. If i just switched to let windows control the intel ulitity services still runs and hogs mem. in the background.
