 Last night my E1505 worked GREAT - I've had it about 2 1/2 months - 1390 mini card worked flawlessly. Tonight - my E1505 wireless is DEAD!! Most of the time, it doesn't even see my Westel Versalink 327W wireless router. My wired Dell desktop works fine. When it does manage to "see" my Westel network, it doesn't stay connected for very long.

I can connect only half the time and then it is fleeting - speed slowly drops to 24mpbs. This is nauseatingly familiar - the Intel 2200 card did the exact same thing in two different laptops. Upon restart, THE ONLY TIME YOU GET A NORMAL CONNECTION IS WHEN YOU VERY FIRST OPEN AN IE EXPLORER WINDOW. IF YOU CLOSE IT AN OPEN ANOTHER - IT FADES IN SPEED AND DIES WITHIN SECONDS. IF YOU OPEN ANOTHER WINDOW WHILE THE VERY FIRST WINDOW IS OPEN - DITTO HAPPENS. Last night, it was completely fine! Tonight, it's a hunk of junk. No clue. I have NOD32 antivirus and Ewido security suite. Everything else - nonInternet or email - works fine.

I'm nervous to try opening the minicard compartment and reseating the card, but I can try it if someone could tell me where it's located underneath the laptop. NOt sure it will help, but it's worth a try. Anyone have any ideas?

i have no earthly idea of what happened or what to do. I thought i read in a thread that you can try uninstalling the card and restarting and letting windows see it on it's own. I've downloaded the current driver off the website and installed it to no avail.

if it was puchased new take it back to dell, they have a 1 year warrenty and they will replace it. if it still doesn't work ask for your money back form dell. don't open the laptop up if you still have a warrenty, because the warreny will be void and you will have to pay for any parts need if needs some.

i'll fess up! I thought i had installed the latest driver for the dell 1390, but I had not. or i had not rebooted. not sure, but when i "double" checked and instlled the driver again and rebooted the yesterday morning - all was completely normal again. I live with the clueless when it comes to this stuff. I had messed around with trying to get remote desktop to work and had to reset my router because it messed up so badly.

from instructions on some threads in this site, it seemed like it would work fine. when i posted my own thread asking for help, the good people on this site informed that xp home isn't capable of this feature - but i had already messed up the network good. bell south had me restart my router and all was well again. but somehow that must have thrown my 1390 card into a latent tizzy.

in any case, installing the correct driver from the dell site seemed make it all better. i post this just in case anyone else experiences this problem. and whatever you do - don't mess with remote desktop and guest accounts if you have xphome on the desktop.
