I've recently purchased a wireless router, and successfully got it to work with 2 out of the 3 computers in our household. I know that my wireless card (Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN) fully supports the 802.11b/g/n that my D-Link DIR-615 offers, as I checked the properties of it. However, whenever I try to connect to the internet via the wireless router, my computer can't "find" it. I search for a list of wireless networks I can connect to, but I can't find the one which I set up. Our other latop, a Toshiba, with the same OS (Vista 32-bit) and went through the same configuration process (I set up the internet connections for both laptops) can go online perfectly fine.

Now it may sound like my wireless network card is broken, but the problem is, I've actually went online with it on via the DIR-615 before. But the next day, when I search for a list of wireless networks in the area, only our router doesn't show up. Our neighbour's wireless networks show up, but not ours (and I'm in the same room our router is in). I've checked everything, and I've got no clue on what's actually wrong. My settings are correct (most likely, since our other laptop using wireless works fine) and I haven't changed any settings since the last time it worked. Could It be a very mischevious setting that I forgot to apply? Everyone else have this problem before?

PS. I checked that my router was working (my mum using the Toshiba was online right behind me...)
PSS. I'm currently using an ethernet cable to go online

EDIT: I just read another thread regarding wireless, and I wanted to add that when I have a look at device manager, my wireless network card is working fine.

Restart both the router and notebook first.

Double check your router's SSID broadcast is on and they share the same wireless channel and mode.

I've checked everything I think. I've spent like 3 hours on this problem. I've compared my settings to the other laptop, and made them the HP identical to the Toshiba. So my notebook theoretically has the correct settings. I've restarted my notebook and router (and modem) countless times.

Re-install the wireless drivers, update if possible

It shows all the wireless networks EXCEPT for the one in our home. I'll try though.

EDIT: Windows said that the drivers for my wireless etwork card are up-to-date

That would've been the case if the other laptop couldn't find the connection either. But the other one can find the cnnection perfectly. It's jsut 'hidden' to my computer for some reason.

It just sounds like a setting you missed on either the router or wireless. Reset and re-configure both if you can.

I haven't changed any settings after my initial set-up. It was working fine the day I set the connections up, and the day after. But today, I couldn't find my network for some reason. I've tried setting up my connection again, but it didn't work. I guess I'll have to reset my router and start everything from scratch.

PS. I'm off for tonight, I've got school tomorrow. Thanks for the ideas so far. I'll check this thread tomorrow when I'm back.

    1. Windows will tell you that your driver is up to date always, so don't' trust it, go directly to Intel and download the appropriate driver for your 4965AGN minicard (although I don't think your nic is the trouble here).

    2. Your laptop see other networks but yours, this means it must be your router that is not sending you the right data.

    Questions:

    1. Is the mum's Toshiba using wireless?
    2. Is your router set to broadcast the SSID?
    3. Is your router set with DHCP?

    1. Yes, which is why I'm thinking there is something wrong, since my mum's works fine
    2. Yes definately. I gave our connection a name, and my mum's laptop can see it fine.
    3. "Enable DHCP" is checked on the router configuration page.

What mode is you mums wireless a/b/g/n? Make sure on the router it is set to 'Mixed' or similar

Also make sure your wireless cards IPv4 & 6 is set to Obtain IP Address automatically

My wireless card just started working again...I changed a few settings. I think it was regarding the frequency. My modem was set to transmit at 20Mhz, while my laptop was set at 40.

I believe this is dynamic, the nic will use 40 but if it's not working well it will switch to 20MHz. Anyway, who cares, your back online and that's what it counts ;)
