hey guys, i had a dell xps m1330 that had the intel 4965 -n card and i was using it on my linksys b/g router. the intel card pulled insanely fast internet and download speeds that were noticeably faster than my other computers even though i wasn't using an -n router. is this normal? do -n cards generally have a higher average speed versus b/g cards?

i realize that some -n cards have a 3rd antenna so that might've helped the reception but i don't think reception was a problem on my desktop and other laptop b/g cards. also, i know that intel wireless laptop cards are way more advanced than the dell wireless cards.

i'm now using a dell 14z with the dell 1397 b/g card. do any of u guys know if it's worth it to upgrade to the dell 1515 -n card? for these particular cards i'm pretty sure that both only use 2 antennas so i'm guessing it should be just a straight swap.

the difference maybe from the antennas that are replaced behind the screen , maybe the antennas in the m11300 is alot better than ur other pcs , and maybe its the card , to find out ..just change the card in the m1330 with an oldercard u have if u found the same signal than the antennas made the difference , if u find the speed not good enough then the card in the m1130 is better than ur other cards

The i4965 is a very nice wireless card. Basically, the first wireless client-side implementation that put all of my previous prejudices concerning wireless aside.

I had a Dell service guy come and replace some parts in my laptop (D830, see specs below), specifically the hinges and LCD cover, and he commented that he had never seen such an elaborate antenna setup before (other laptop models he's serviced before have far smaller antennas). With the i4965 board, I can easily be 4 or 5 houses away, and still receive the signal perfectly well (WAP is a Linksys wrt54gl), whereas, with some other models of laptop, just going on the other side of the house causes reception difficulties!
