Well i ussualy use my router at my dads, which has dsl.
I took it to my moms and plugged it in. no connection the pc light on my modem is blinking meaning its plugged it but not sending or recieving data

so i thought my router was configured improperly so i loggedonto it and reset it to defaults and set it to dynamic ip for auto detecting. but nothing changed , You would think my problem is needing to contact my isp to get them to acknowledge my mac adress on router or something. But there site was down. I plug my laptop in (which had never been plugged in there) and internet works immedietly. So i dont know what to do I hate being plugged in :( I mean thats y i got the laptop so i could use it anywere, wires arent helping with that

Do you DSL at both locations? Did you reset the DSL login info (you probably can't use your Dad's login at your Mom's)?

With the cable modem you have to reset the modem and then plug the RJ-45 connector from the modem to the router. You cannot just unplug the computer and plug in a router. It will no recognize the change (at least my experience).

Also take out the DSL info, because you won't need it on the cable ISP.

    Hope this helps.
