I have a dlink dir-655 router (with 1.03 firmware) and having problems connecting my vaio fz notebook (vista and wireless abgn wireless card) at wireless n speeds. With wpa encryption enable, I can only connect at 54 mbps. If I disable encryption I can connect at 144 mbps. Is this normal?

    Any thoughts?

Try 1.04. Also is what mode is the router set to? N only? N and G? Try playing with that. Mine will only connect at 130mbps but im guessing this is because I only have 2 out of three antennas connected so when my new laptop arrives next month I will know for sure.

Get into the router, click on "Setup"-"Wireless Settings"-"Manual Wireless Network Settings." Under "Wireless Security Mode," make sure that one of the WPA modes is being used (you'll probably want "WPA Personal"). Then, go below, and if your device is WPA2 compatible, select that for better security. That should allow you to connect at above 54 Mbps.

I am only able to get 130 Mbps on my laptop using the IntelĀ® PRO/Wireless 4965 802.11 a/b/g/n card.

I haven't tried 1.04 yet. I only saw 1.03 on the dlink website, is 1.04 beta?

I tried n only, but it will only connect at 144mbps without wap encryption, if I am using encryption it only connects at 54mbps. This is also true when I sent the router to mixed mode (b,g,n). My laptop has the intel wireless 4965 a/b/g/n card as well, so I'm not sure why the encryption is reducing my speed to g.
