    hi every1. i have a desktop pc hard connected to my dir615 router and occasionally my ping sky rockets to the 900+. this is most noticeable while playing games where most of my actions dont get registered and only spamming an action will register after 5-10 secs of delay. for ventrilo/msn chat voices my friends voices get distorted and my friends cannot hear anything from me during this period of lag. after a short while the ping will return to normal acceptable ranges (20-50 for me). it sometimes lasts for only 5 seconds, while sometimes it lasts up to 60 seconds depending on how severe it is. frequency and duration of lag seems completely random. i do not know if this occurs for wireless as i generally dont play games on my laptop and this lag is not to easy to spot when outside gaming, unless i am downloading files and the dl speed suddenly drops to <10 kB/s.

    i have heard many bad things about the dir-615 and also about sudden disconnections for wireless but none of those problems seem identical to mine.

    whenever i restarted my router the problem is less sever where the frequency of these ping increases is less often and the duration is shorter, but still remains a very annoying problem. im used to leaving on my router 24/7 mayb that somehow screwed up my router.

    not sure if this is fixable or if other ppl have the same problem as i do. since i bought this router a couple years ago i might have to get a new one. im looking at the new d-link dir-815 wireless N dual band router.

    It is probably the router causing it.

    D-links of late have been lacking quality.
    Starting around the 615 era, many of them had shorter lifespans.

    D-Link also started doing some rather questionable things around then, and showed how poor they could be at making firmware that worked (655 took 2 years to make stable). They rank near the bottom of my lists after many years at the top of it.

    As for recommendations;
    Belkin has never been great.
    Linksys makes great stuff, but they are run my jerks.

    My advice, Netgear, Asus, Buffalo or TpLink.
    I have used all with good success, except TpLink, which I can only recommend based on a few others I trust, who have had good luck with it.
