i just got a wi-fi router an hour ago and i'm real happy with it. thought i'd share my experience.

i was thinking of getting a wifi router for quite some time but never really pushed through. i saw one at the mall near my house for a good price (about 80 in US dollars) because they're expensive to get here in the philippines. i wanted to get a d-link di-624+ B/G router before but what the hell, i don't have a G wifi on the lappy. and the shop that had that was a good hour away from my place. so i picked up a linksys BEFW11S4 V.4 router to replace my old linksys wired router.

setup time: less than 10 minutes [ :D] no problem whatsoever. real happy! i'm typing about 25 feet away from the router and it's got full signal [ :D] i've got 2 pc's connected by wire and this lappy wireless. i'm gonna test it around the whole house and post an update. thought i'd share this for people who're thinking about getting a wi-fi router. i don't really know if it's better than d-link or not, but i can assure you, you'll be happy with this one. [ :)]

Make sure you implement some security features for your wireless network. See link:

easiest thing to do is just to hide the SSID - don't let people know its there, then they can't use it

Actually if someone is using a scanner and waits long enough till a client access the router (AP) it will detect the ID coming from the client side.

    So setup WPA

well, let me clarify - depends on where the network is - me living out in the suburbs where the houses are spaced, no random people drive by, and no one living around me is a tech person... it works great - if you live in the middle of the city or somewhere more vulnerable, then yes - please setup a WPA
