So all the sudden I've had problems with my internet connection: Internet Explorer and AIM work and that's it- Firefox, updates for itunes, spybot, and other things can't connect. They all basically say check your settings. Spybot says proxy server or issue #100061? I disabled windows firewall and same problems.

I looked into proxy server issues but I couldn't really understand what that's all about.

I'm just on a dial-up connection at home. btw dial up really sucks.

Any ideas? I'm trying to get better with all this stuff but I've had no luck diagnosing this. Thanks!

I would uninstall Spybot, it has had issues on the pc I have worked on. My guess is it's Spybot that is routing you through a proxy for its filtering.

I got rid of spybot/rebooted and I still have the problem. It happened around the time I got a firefox update if I recall but not sure if it was related. The fact is it's not only firefox that doesn't work. Thanks for the input-any other ideas?

If some program work and other do not you need to lower the MTU normally. Not sure on dial-up.

Have you tried system restore back to a date that was working?

Under your dialup tcp/ip properties take it out or remove your proxy settings. If your on a dialup service that charges a extra $5 for a file compression that works on 30% of the sites.
