ok I am not IT smart so bear with me, I will try to provide as much info as I can, if you need any more please let me know.
We have a desktop that connects to the internet via a Verizon DSL modem. We bought a Linksys WRT54GS G router. Connected the router to the modem, etc. The Desktop connects fine through the router. My roomate has a Gateway laptop that she can get online through the router with no problem.
My Dell Inspiron 5100 Laptop was connecting in the beginning no problem. Then it wouldn't connect, so I went into the Linksys program on the desktop to get the router to recognize the laptop and secured the wireless settings. It told me I needed to take my flash drive and connect it to my laptop to get the network settings, connect it to the desktop and get more settings or something and then plug it back into my laptop and it should be all set. I did that and it connected fine. However, whenever the computer is turned on/"woken up" it isn't connected to the internet anymore. It gets a signal and it tells me I have "limited or no connectivity to the wireless network" So it knows the program is there but it won't connect to the network so I can get online. If I plug in my flash drive and bring up the linksys program that the desktop saved onto it, it connects me to the internet. I have to do this everytime I want to connect to the internet if I'm not already connected.
I have tried repairing the wireless connection and it gets to the part where it wants to renew the IP address and it stops because it can't renew it.

I'm really going to throw my laptop into oncoming traffic. Can anyone help me?

Operating system on the laptop having the problem?

What are you using to connect to the wireless--windows built in wireless or a third party utility?

I'm not exactly sure if this is right or not..
It is supposed to be using windows to configure my wireless network settings. I have a Dell TrueMobile 1300 WLAN Mini-PCI Card in here.

On the network icon right click and select the Network option, then status and then wireless properties, make sure you have checked the box to connect to the network automatically.
