so even tho i am connected to the internet, my computer (running Vista Premium) keeps popping up a message to connect to the broadband connection. it is really annoying, because if i dont click cancel and ignore it, the web pages stop loading. how on earth do i turn the damn thing off?

What type of ISP do you have? Do you have PPPoE?

screenie looks to me like when you set up your connection wizard instead of selecting connect to broadband connection that is always on...you may have selected connect with user name and password...i'd say most if not all PPPoE DSL connections today are open PPPoE...you have a software to set up your DSL modem...once you are done...depending on how the interface looks...find the edit tab that allows to stay always connected

Isn't there an option when you right-click the Internet connect icon, to turn the Windows app off? I've always used the wireless adapter's app to connect (a very cheap Belkin for the Windows machine). I'm not using a Windows machine connected wirelessly and haven't for a while, or would check it for you, but I'm pretty sure it's done as I described.

Edit: Think I may have misunderstood your post. Are you connected with ethernet?

you need to reconfigure a new network connection...choose manual set-up...you'll need the i.p. addy from your service, and then use the same user name and password that you have for your modems PPPoE settngs....
