I have several computers on a wireless network. Sometimes for some unknown reason one of them will randomly lose internet connection and show a ip conflict. sometimes rebooting the computer fixes it, sometimes I have to restart the router.

Can anyone clue me in whats causing this and maybe a way to prevent it from happening.

Is someone using a static address?

    say for example:
computer 1 is on dhcp, server gives out .101 address to it

computer 2 comes on later with a static address of .101. the router cant have 2 with the same address and sends out an ip conflict.

There are many possibilities like if you have iptv etc. Can you tell us your whole network details?

    desktop - rj45 - dynamic ip
    laptop1 -wireless - dynamic ip
    laptop2- wireless - dynamic ip
    laptop3 - wireless - dynamic ip

i just logged into my xbox 360 to see if it was and it is set to auto not static like i thought. so everything should be auto. the ip conflict did happen around the time i powered on the xbox 360 though.

Sounds like your xbox isn't playing by the dhcp lease rules.

Best advice in this case is to assign a static ip address outside the scope of the dhcp range (but still on the same network, obviously) for the xbox.

So, for example, if your router address is 192.168.0.1, set the xbox to 192.168.0.2, and set the dhcp range to 192.168.0.5 through 192.168.0.50
