I am soon to buy a new laptop and wanting to get N-wireless cards - in fact some models I'm considering are only available with N-wireless. Relevant card models are:

    - Intel 4965AGN
    - Dell 1505

We are running a Netgear DG834G modem/router. It will be upgraded to N- but wanting to wait until we can get an ADSL modem with 1GB Ethernet connection.

Will the N-wireless laptop operate with the G- router?

    Thanks

Yep, it will work fine. I've also got the 4965AGN, and have a G router at home, and an N router at work.

yes, the wireless card should accept the g signal also. your wireless card will accept 802.11 A/G/N signals.

usually in the computer specification it will tells you. the higher end of the wireless card accept all of the popular 802.11 specification. 802.11 a/b/g/n

all of the wireless card i see that accept N signal also accept G signal as well.

Yes, it will work, actually the wireless adapter will match the router's standard.

In other words, your card will exceed the capability of the router. This is why you may want to get a G adapter in case you are not planing to upgrade your router to N, but if you are, then the 4965AGN is a fantastic wireless card, I have it too.
