    On your Vista system:

    Vista Network Sharing Setup

That will set your Vista system for sharing.

    On your XP system:

How to configure file sharing in Windows XP

If all of this is Greek to you, or you don't really understand Network Sharing, there's a Cisco program called Network Magic Pro (it has a full trial version) that makes sharing a snap. Download it and install it on both computers, then all you need to do is click on which folders you wish to share on the network. It also gives you a Network map of all your systems, devices, any problems, current speeds, diagnostics, etc. Even though I know how to do it without it, I use it because it's easier and does other things I like because I have a lot of things connected to my LAN. You can get it at this link: Cisco Network Magic Pro 5.1
