Just got a wireless inkjet printer; Problem is that it will not print without being connected which defeats the entire purpose. Any thoughts on this? All the laptops work great in our home, as does my smartphone, showing great WiFi signal.

What computer systems are you running? Make/Model and OS would be good to know. Also, are you running firewalls on any of the computers? Finally, did you read through the printer's instruction manual to see if you had to set up a custom port to run the wireless printing connection?

Running Win 7 on both laptops. Both laps are Asus No firewalls I don;t think.
I did read the printer manual which said connect with a USB cable just to get started but now I can only use the cable or it won't print. The inkjet is Lexmark. Keep telling my wife I will not be able to rest easy with this wireless printer unless the blasted thing prints wirelessly.

Post the make and model of the printer. Lexmark makes a few wireless printers.

This is the z4500. Very small printer. The WiFi is working fine, all laptops, cell, etc all are working great. This is the only thing that isn't. It keeps refusing to "connect" or communicate with the laptop unless it is physically plugged using the usb cable.

I can't find anything on the Lexmark site for the z4500. I see an x4550. Can you post a link to the product page for your printer?

Try following the instructions in the network guide.

    Lexmark - United States

There is a user guide on that page also.
