The configuration page of my wireless router doesn't allow me to change the channel number of the router. The only channel number in the drowdown menu list is 6. It's written "(domain:ETSI)" on the right of the channel number. Can anyone tell me why it doesn't allow me to change the channel number?

The router is a Trendnet TEW 452BRP (Super G). The computer is a Acer Aspire 1640z Series Laptop with a built in wireless b/g network adapter.

The reason I'm trying to do this is because I've lost 60-70% of the speed I had using the local network adapter (so, the wired connection) when I began using the wireless router and I'm trying to decide if it has anything to do with the fact that I also use a bluetooth adapter (also Trendnet, uses the 2.4 GHz frequency), a wireless mouse (which I'm pretty sure that uses the same 2.4 GHz frequency) and my mobile phone also stays on same desk with the wireless router and the laptop. I read that changing the channel number might help increasing the speed. (also, I have at least 2-3 neighbours that use a private wireless network like myself)

    Please help :)

    Thank you.

P.S. I'll be more than glad to provide more tech details if necessary.

I'm not familiar with the specific router but FYI, all channels will be on variants of the 2.4ghz range.

Here's a screenshot from one of my access point as an example.

Wireless is a lot slower than wired is, and I'm not saying changing channels isn't worth a shot, but it's likely just wireless being wireless.

To anyone looking for details on the router, here is the emulator provided by trendnet.

So, it's the same range for all channels. ****! Still, I googled the problem I have with the lowered speed, and many tech support sites said changing the channel could help (though only a bit).

    Thanks for the info Hep.

P.S. I know the emulator. First thing I did after I encountered the problem is to search all the knowledge base on Trendnet's site. My router's config page just won't show me all the channels like the emulator shows. I guess it will remain a mystery.

I thought of that and surfed to Trendnet's website for an update. There's a problem there too. My router's model number is TEW452BRP(C1.0R) and they only offer an update for model number TEW452BRP(B1.0R). NOTICE THE "B" INSTEAD OF "C". They even advice customers not to update their router's firmware (if it works fine with the drivers they provided on the cd that came with the package) unless instructed to do so by their tech support team because it can cause permanent damage to the router.

    Thank you again Hep!.

@ kegobeer: already done that (by e-mail). I'm still waiting for an answer though.

I think I'll just give up trying to change that channel number.

Yes Wirelessman. I'm from Romania, Eastern Europe.

Europe = 13 channels, America = 11 channels, right? Still, only 1 channel appears on my dropdown list. :|

Where did you get the router? Sometimes American routers disable the channels you can't use in your region. Have you upgraded the firmware?

I got the router from www.dcshop.ro . That's probably the most famous computer shop in my country. No worries about their product quality.

As I explained earlier (please read my post above, on 09/02), I couldn't upgrade the firmware because I couldn't find the right one for my router on Trendnet's website.
