ok i've got a little dilemma. i don't even know where to start...
i want to move my router and pc into a room with a tv, but there is no place to connect the router because the tv already occupies the cable outlet in the wall. i don't really want to spend money on a wireless router if i can help it. but i was looking at the extension cord that my tv is plugged into and saw that there are 4 little knob like things, 2 labeled input and 2 labeled output. they look like the cable outlets in the walls. so i was wondering, could i attach a cable cord into the "input" thing on my extension cord, and direct it into my modem? will it be able to access cable?

No, those are in and out video and audio signals.

Now, your modem get a coax input from the ISP and it connects into the router using a cat5 or Ethernet cable.

If you are moving the modem and the router together to the room, then just get yourself a power splitter (it has 3 coaxial ports), try to get something good because the losses in each port could be from 3 to 6dB, and 3dB losses is half power loss. Cheaper the splitter worst the losses.

So you would connect the coax coming from the wall into the input port of the splitter and then the other port to the TV and the other to the modem.

hmm interesting. how much should i spend on a good power splitter? or if it's relatively expensive, should I just go ahead a buy a wireless router? which would be better?

A power splitter is peanut, $4 at most. You might be able to use the one is already installed at your house. Check the coaxial cable entrance, the signal must be divided (TV and broadband modem) somewhere there.

The power splitter would be wherever the coaxial cable comes in into your house, there should be a box from your ISP provider in the side of the house.

I'm assuming you have a house. Just tell radio shack is to divide the TV signal and the broadband signal, they will tell you the model, but look for the one in the house first.
