My brothers laptop has not been able to access Youtube for a few days now, and i am worried that his IP has been blocked (If at all possible). All of his other websites work fine from what he tells me, and i checked for viruses and spyware and stuff like that. I think its odd that i can still access Youtube, and he cant, being on the same network and all. Any help you can give me would be great.

    EDIT:
Just tried to access youtube on my brothers laptop from public wifi. Can youtube block a mac address? =/

    EDIT AGAIN:
Just tried using a proxy, and youtube worked.. this makes no sense to me since a proxy masks your IP and not your MAC Address.. right?

Why would they block your brother?

What error page does it give you?

Have you tried flushing the cache?

    Tried a different browser?

I have no idea why they would block my brother.

im not sure what flushing the cash is :/

    yes, tried Firefox and IE.

Ok i see, go to your command prompt and type 'ping www.youtube.com'

Flushing the caches is just deleting all the temporary files/cookies/etc in your browser.

Do you have a firewall or any third party security programs installed? Try temporarily disabling those.

    hosts file maybe?

if not, try this << if that doesn't work, just try going to proxy.org and using that to connect to youtube.com

just typed ipconfig /flush DNS and it said "Successfully flushed the DNS server Cache."

I really really hope the government isnt watching me, that ould be scarry.

Also, maybe it is a host file. Youtube works with proxys, but doesnt work when he trys to connect to it on its own.

Thanks for the help so far guys.

    open a command prompt. telnet youtube.com 80

if that connects then you have layer 3 connectivity to it. I doubt its DNS related as you can resolve youtube in your ping commands. as such host file entries are checked prior to going out and searching for it on DNS servers.

the fact that it works with proxies is bringing things back to an application problem that is prohibiting his browser from getting to the content on the webserver(youtube)
boot into safe mode and try youtube.

MAC changes after each hop. your IP and your MAC will not be visible.
