Can any explain to me why Vista randomly drops my wireless connection? It doesn't always happen, but when it does it drives me crazy. I'll be browsing the internet while simultaneously downloading a file that can't be restarted and then Vista will just all of a sudden drop my wireless connection  . I know that it's a problem with Vista because I use both XP and Ubuntu on my laptop and they don't have any problems at all with my wireless connection. I mean, on average, I get about 4 disconnections per day in Vista WHICH IS A LOT seeing as XP and Ubuntu usually never drop the connection at all. I'm always getting a strong signal since I use my wireless at home, so signal strength isn't an issue. Is there some stray process running in the background that's responsible? Is it some pesky virus? If so, how can I kill it???

I use this Trendnet router w/ WPA2 encryption. My laptop has the Intel wireless card you can see in my sig. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi: I have what seems to be the same problem. Also frequently when connecting to a wireless access point, I don't seem to be issued an IP by the DHCP server. And sometime the Access Connections sees no wireless access point, while my XP laptop sees them all. Let me know if you find any information.

I havent had any trouble like that either, we have 2 vista hp 32 systems,1 vista 64 hp, 1 xp pro, a 360 and 1 linux box, if any of the vista machines lose connection, all machines have lost it, never had a case where one had it and the others still had access.

Vista networking including wireless is very concise and more reliable than XP and Ubuntu. There are many things you could be suffering from, for example, have you setup your wireless nic for maximum transmit power? Have you selected the right standard a/b/g? etc.

You may also want to disable IPv6, is been known causing problems. also make sure to have the latest driver.
