    Hello there,

There are a few wi-fi hotspots around my job but it seems like I'm unable to connect to any.
I would go to the list of available networks, attempt to connect but it will either say: "cannot connect to "name here" or it will supposedbly connect but stay at unidentified connection, even though signal strength is good or excellent.

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit. I have disabled the option for sleep mode to disable the card.
I *HAD* the McCafee suite installed, and I uninstalled it thinking it was causing the problem, but I was wrong. The problem still exists, so i guess i can reinstall that.

My home network is private with WEP security key enabled. I connected to that, put in the key and it works fine, but if i try to connect to someone else's unsecured network or a hotspot it stays at unidentified (local access only)

I've heard its a Vista related issue but I'm not too sure on how to fix it :/

    Anybody help?

I have Dell onsite service and all that but i dont think it will help much since i installed 64 bit ultimate and it came with 32 bit home premium. I'm not sure.

Connecting to un-authorized wireless AP's is illegal.

Yep...thread closed. If its a free and legal hotspot, then their network administrators can help you out.
