I did this before a year or so ago but can't remember how to do it again or where to find out how, so please help. I'm working with a wired XP desktop and 3 wireless Vista laptops.

Recently we lost power for a couple days and our wireless router (Linksys WRT54G) got completely reset, and lost all the security settings and passcodes, etc. Ack. So, I set everything back up the way I remember it (with a different passcode)... WPA-P TKIP etc etc. Desktop works fine, but the laptops will not connect, but they do detect the network, with excellent strength. I specify the settings, enter the new passcode, and they'll just attempt to connect until it times out.

However... if I remove all security settings from the router, they can connect fine. I think I remember some issue about WPA invovling xp/vista, and I'm pretty sure I installed a fix for that when trying to do file sharing a while back.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Don't use .Vista so I can't give direct instructions but i'll hint you on what to try.

    * Try deleting the network from the .Vista machines

    * Leave on WPA but try AES instead of TKIP. And those settings should be the same on the laptops.

Windows XP SP3 and Vista have native support for WPA. Windows XP SP2 and earlier need a patch.

Having used the same conbination of OS and router myself, have you tried using WPA2 AES with PSK? They work for me.

Thank you Tranquility... I'm fairly certain I tried that before, but it actually worked this time around!

    Thanks all.
