Ok so I just recently have been having this problem, When I get on xbox live and go into an xbox live party I get disconnected like every 10 seconds so not only can I not be in a party but I cannot even play online matches right now. Apparently it is only happening on the 360 since my brother has been playing on the ps3 online without any problems. I am using a wireless n adapter for the 360. Any ideas on what it might be?

And also I was wondering if someone would enlighten me about Routers, I bought a Netgear WNDR3700 some time ago and don't really know what I could do with it besides playing 360 and ps3 wireless. Like whats 2.4ght and 5ght for? also when I download torrents why does it make my computer really slow and not let me play games online? or does it do that to everyone?

Sorry I know I have a lot of questions but this is really bothering me and I know everyone here is very knowledgeable. Thanks.

    PS3 FTW!!!....Pwn Xbox. :D LOL...JKiddin'

...Is there a possibility that Microsoft is having online issues at this time? Have you tried checking the 'online' status on the particular games you are trying to play?

If all systems a go, then it might probably be an issue with Ports needing to be forwarded. You should try and research if any particular Ports are required to be forwarded (by the particular game/online service you are trying to access) in your Router.

I have no experience with Netgear Routers but basically 2.4Ghz/5Ghz is the frequency on which the Wireless signals are being transmitted into the atmosphere. 5Ghz is the latest technology and it's what the Wireless technology ' N' operates on. It offers more throughput/speed and signal range than 802.11 G.

Torrent programs will do that to your Internet connection. It will bog it down unless you set parameters to limit it's bandwidth usage. uTorrent for example which I use doesn't by default set limitations on a max. download cap for downloading torrents; so you will need to set the max. download speed in the settings of the Torrent app. you're using. In uTorrent for ex. you can right click the single torrent file you are downloading, go to 'Bandwidth Allocation' then 'Set download limit' and limit the download speed. I for one never play games online on my PS3 if I'm downloading torrents. I will close it and re-open when i'm finished playing online...

Your broadband connection determines many things...
    Max Uplink Speed
    Max Downlink Speed
    Overall Line Quality
    Max TCP/UDP Connections
    etc...

If you are using a torrenting program, and expect other things that are on the same broadband connection to work properly, you have to set limits so as to not let the torrent app completely saturate your connection, because they'll do it every time if you don't set limits. What would really be helpful would be your connection speed... Then we could recommend how many connections you can handle, and what your upload/download speeds should be.

Now the difference in 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz bands are... 2.4 is a very crowded band, and 5.8 isn't. If the X360 is further than the PS3 from the access point, then it might be having problems keeping a stable connection quality. Wireless N can operate on 2.4 or 5.8GHz, or sometimes even MIMO, but I'll bet that your 360 adapter is 2.4GHz.

Everyone I have been playing with have had no problems at all, I just unplugged the 360 wireless adapter and put it back in and it worked, but it was down for like two hours so it probably just fixed itself. I never had that problem at all, and I'm not sure if I have any ports open but I had the NAT type to open(It's been like that for like 2 months) if that has anything to do with it.
And its weird I'm downloading a torrent right now and it was going under a 100kb/s but as soon put a limit it started climbing up to it  I don;t know if its just a coincidence but I like it. Thanks for all the Help and Info.
