Hello everyone I just join this forum because I have a problem with my laptop
I have an Sony Vaio VGN-AR21M (check the link for more details)
I run Windows XP SP3, with all updates installed.
the network adapter is IntelĀ® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
and I updated the driver at Intel with the latest version 12.4.4.5
So, I enable wireless network connection and switch on the WLAN button and I get the red X Not connected,
when I open the window to choose a wireless connection I get nothing:

and I know there are a few wireless links because even my phone find 3 of them
and also get this message when I try to connect trough wireless starter

Go to the system control panel and see if you have a ! on the wireless. If so you have a driver problem. I would then roll back the driver and load the latest from Sony, at least that one will be tested to work with your system.

    Have you tried this:

Click start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.

Within services find the one called Wireless Zero Configuration, and start it.

Right click the Wireless Network Connection icon in system tray > View Availables wireless networks > Wireless networks tabs > Change advanced settings > Check 'use windows to configure my wireless networks settings'

Then attempt to refresh and see if windows will find an available network.
