    hi folks,

i am a new member with a very disturbing problem here with my Wireless connection.first i have formatted my laptop "dell INSP 1501" and when i was done installing my operating system XP i had some issues with drivers but thanks god i had it all under control and now i have no unknown devices on my device manager, the only issue i have is when i want to get my laptop connected to wireless internet connection either at my house or some other encrypted hotspots. My laptop now never detects any connections automatically as it used to do before me formatting it,when i attempt to refrech my network list it says that i can not do it and i only have to go to wireless zero configuration and set it to auto "i always find it on auto" and hit start then ok then also go to the local area connection properties and hit wireless network tab and check "use windows to configure my wireless network settings" then ok after all those steps i finally can refresf network list and detect connections and get connected, but the nightamare is that i have to go through all this once i shut the laptop and turn it back on and thats something very disturbing and makes me mad i need help how i can keep my laptop WI-FI detect wireless connection automatically and without me going through all that, any help would be greately appreciated.

Go thru the adapter settings. You will see a setting to allow you to connect to access points without profiles. You wanto to click yes to allow this to happen.

    Hope this helps.

I want to believe Toyo is talking about the Adapter settings in Device Manager. Do a Start--> Run and type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. Locate your Wireless Network Device under the Network Adapters section, right click on it and select Properties. Under the Advanced tab you will find various settings that can be changed. I believe this section is where my friend above is referring to.

Your case is a weird one...you say the WZC service is set to Automatic so I don't know what to suggest really...just mess w/ those settings and see what gives.

Just to b sure...you do mean you go to Start--> Run "services.msc" and the Wireless Zero Config. service is set to Automatic and Started right?

Setting your "WZC" to "disabled" in the advance tab as shown by MAKAVELI72will restore your ability to pick and choose which wireless network to connect to.

I'm having the exact same problem and am looking for a fix so I don't have to go through all of this to get my wireless card to start up.

cajung; try this, go to Start--> Run and type services.msc then hit enter. Look for the Wireless Zero Config. service and set it to Automatic and Start it if it's not started.

Thanks, but it is already in auto and I started it when I came online. It seems like yuni1108 had the same problem as I. I'm not sure what he did to fix his problem....he never said. I think it may be what Junscelica said.... Setting your "WZC" to "disabled" in the advance tab as shown by MAKAVELI72will restore your ability to pick and choose which wireless network to connect to. Does anyone know? Everytime I turn on my computer, I have to go to ZWC and start and then go to wireless network connections, rt clk, go to the wireless network tab and check use windows to configure my wireless network settings. I know that I shouldn't have to do this everytime I come online.

It sounds like you have another software program (that possibly came with the computer) managing your wireless connections.

What Brand/Model computer are you using?

What Operating System are you running?

Look for a Wireless Utility program in your task tray and/or programs menu and try and disable or uninstall it so Windows WZC can be the sole program managing the wireless connections.

Thanks for your reply Makaveli72. I have a Dell Inspiron 6400/E1505. I'm running Windows XP. Where would I look for a "Wireless Utility program in the task tray and/or programs menu and try and disable or uninstall it so Windows WZC can be the sole program managing the wireless connections?"
I'm sorry but I'm really not too good with this kind of stuff.

At the bottom right hand corner of your computer screen; by the task tray, do you see an icon that looks like this [IMG]? You may have to click the < arrow to see all the icons.

Go to Start-->All Programs..do you see anything such as D ell Wireless WLAN Utility?

If so either disable it by starting the program and taking out the check next to "Let this tool manage your wireless settings" or go to Control Panel-->Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the Dell WLAN Utility program.

If there is no such program on the computer affecting the Windows Built-In Wireless Zero Config. service then you shouldn't be having an issue once the WZC service is started. The only other thing to do now is click on the Wireless network in the task tray (if you don't see it go to Start-->Run and type ncpa.cpl and hit enter, right click on the Wireless Adapter and select Properties. Make sure the two checks at the bottom are checked.) You should see a list of available Wireless Routers which your Router should be in. If you don't see any Routers but instead see a message about WZC click the link "Change Advanced Settings" on the left side of that Window then select the Wireless Tab and put in the check to "Let Windows Manage the Wireless Connections"....

Makaveli72....you are a GENIUS!!! For the last 3-4 weeks everytime I started up my computer I would have to go to ZWC and all that stuff to get the wireless going. I read your message. I didn't have the bars in my "tray", but I went to Start-->All Programs..Dell Wireless WLAN Utility. I then disabled it by starting the program and taking out the check next to "Let this tool manage your wireless settings" Now, when I turn on my computer, the wireless automatically comes up. Again.....thanks so much and for taking the time to help me. Craig

Is there any advantage/disadvantage to either leting the Intel's Pro Set Wireless do the configuring or the Windows system? The reason I ask is that when I am using Intel's program my wireless is very finicky, sometimes cant even connect. However when I let Windows do it I dont have a problem. I kinda like Intel's GUI better. Am I limiting myself or shall I continue to try and get Intel's working right?

    Thanks

Windows knows best...if you're having issues with Intel's then just disable it and let Windows manage the connections. I honestly don't know what you could do to make the Intel utility any better though.
