Okay so now i have a new problem with my router.  (Actiontec MI424 WR)

I can connect using Wi-Fi just fine, but the wired Ethernet jacks on the back of the router don't seem to work at all-Each computer, both my laptop, and the desktop normally connected via Ethernet don't recieve an IP address. Here's what I've done so far...

I used the "Repair" options on both the Vista laptop, and the XP MCE 2005 desktop with no success.

I checked the computers to make sure that DHCP was enabled.

I've rebooted both the computers and the router multiple times, and checked all connections.

I also moved the Ethernet cord connecting the desktop from one port (port 1) to the three others, just to see if that would solve it.

I even used a different Ethernet cord to connect the laptop, just to rule out the cord that connected the desktop. Nothing.

This just started today. I logged into the router and everything seems fine, with a green checkmark in the "Router Status" box. I'm just wondering if it's a hardware (router) problem or i'm missing something that's very obvious to people actually good with networking (not me :p )

    Thanks,
    Ricky

it's a longshot...but if your using a third party firewall...windows firewall likes to for some stupid A$$ Bill Gate's reason likes to sneak on occassionally...this has happened to me a few times...since i don't use windows built in firewall i have none of the advanced configurations set to allow IP functions...

Thanks, I would look into that except that the only firewall I am using on both machines is Windows Firewall, I checked there btw and found nothing out of the ordinary...

    Thanks again,
    Ricky :)

Could be the router. Could be the cable. Who knows, considering the circumstances. Just take a mental note and the next time this happens, chuck the router out the window.

    Have you rebooted the router?

Turn off the FW for testing, Just because it looks OK does not always work. MS has a BAD habit of changing your settings when updates come through.

Also check to see if the Actiontec has any updated firmware for it. If this is a supplied router by your ISP call and get a replacement.

Yep. I'm gonna call Verizon and ask for a replacement-It already has the latest firmware
