I have an existing Verizon DSL connection, and i have been using it wired.

i need something so that im not tied to my desk. i would like to use my laptop around the house, typing up stuff while watching tv, etc.

would i need a router? or something else?

    and for what price?

Does your router have built in wireless?
If not: What wireless network types (a/b/g are the types) that your notebook supports then I can recommend a wireless router that has high-range and only need to e plugged into the RJ-45 port on the router
    Looking forward to helping,

if you current configeration is internet over a LAN (local area network) then then all you need is a compatible router that can connect to you laptop (a/b/g) my current configeration is an Interbaun dsl internet modem with is wired to the router using a Lan cord and the rest is fairly easy, just follow the instruction to set it up when you purcase the router.

a basic and cheaper router will set you back between 15-50 dollars (depends were)

i hope this helps and good luck :)

Was just looking around and found this one:
    Belkin Pre-N router
and read many reviews and found it is great and has very long range
It will work with your laptop (it is b/g... your card supports a/b/g)
The cost is $80 (this is just the first price I found I will look around more for you if you want)
But if you want to buy the wireless Pre-N card you will get larger range to the router
but it is another $80 and will take up a PCMIA slot and it eats up power...
    See a cnet review here
Will post more as I find them
Please post answer to this ?:
Can you spend more than $80?
Do you want to spend less than $80?
    Hope this helps,
    -TBird

i was actually hoping to spend less than $50.

i dont think range will be a problem, cuz i wont be moving very far. maybe 100ft at most

    my connection is 100mbps
